As one of the world’s premier manufacturers of machine bases, at American Grinding & Machine, we build the two-tier unit highlighted here for a customer in the automation industry. Our machine bases are characterized by their superior quality and outstanding craftsmanship. With our decades of experience, we bring an unrivaled level of insight and skill into the design and structural manufacturing of these devices.
This specific machine base features a relatively large-scale two-tier design with overall measurements of 60" long x 84" wide x 35-5/8" high. Primary operations consisted of cutting the hot rolled steel elements for the assembly and welding them together. With our 148" Blanchard rotary grinder, we produced finish work to extremely close flatness tolerances and a 63 micro finish. We shot blasted and painted the unfinished areas. With our lifting capacity, we could easily maneuver this heavy workpiece throughout the different areas of our shop for treatment.
The customer supplied us with a 2D CAD drawing that served as the basis for our fabrication processes. For quality assurance, we verified the dimensional accuracy to ensure it matched the specifications. The machine base exhibits exceptional rigidity and rock-solid dimensional and thermal stability.
With our versatile capabilities, we offered the customer very favorable pricing and the convenience of end-to-end manufacturing. We delivered the final one-of-a-kind workpiece on a four-week schedule and shipped to its service location in Indiana. For more detailed information about this machine base or the processes we used for fabrication, contact us directly.
The weldment highlighted here is a machine base we built for an automation application. It is based on our standard M200 heavy-duty machine base design that we modified to application-specific customer requirements. As one of the largest flat grinding shops in the United States, we have the facilities to fabricate outsized and heavy workpieces to rigid quality standards.
Manufacturing unique weldments such as this one is something we do on an everyday basis. We have developed an approach that enables us to work quickly and strategically, so our rates are very competitive. This particular project involved producing a total of 14 units, that with diligent planning, we accomplished in just five weeks.
This unit features a 1-3/4" thick top plate with distinctively machined features and hole patterns. We Blanchard ground the top plate to ±0.002" flatness tolerances and a 63 micro surface that is standard with all of our machine bases. All elements were constructed from hot rolled steel, and we painted the welded framing supporting the top plate with a bright blue color. The finished unit features dimensions of 54" in length x 101" in width x 35-1/2" in height.
As part of our services, we developed custom packaging that protected the machine bases during shipment to the customer in Louisiana. They were very impressed with the quality and durability and have since retained us for additional work. To learn more about this heavy-duty custom machine base or the processes we used for manufacturing it, contact us directly.
With our versatility, American Grinding & Machine manufactures both large and small format workpieces. This project highlights grinding a unit that occupies a compact footprint, and it showcases our small Blanchard grinding capabilities. It also demonstrates our ability to react quickly to accommodate tight time constraints - we Blanchard ground, inspected, and delivered a total of 36 pieces in five days to a local customer for an agricultural industry application.
This project involved grinding a high nickel alloy casting. Our main task consisted of shaping and smoothing small mounting ports. Since hard nickel alloy is a tough material, it required careful consideration of tooling, abrasives, and grinding forces. We processed these castings, which featured approximate dimensions of 2-7/8" long x 13-5/8" wide x 15-3/4" high, using our 42" rotary Blanchard grinder, a CNC-driven machine ideal for intricate grinding tasks. Specifically, we ground both the top and bottom of the workpiece to 2.440" ±0.015" and a 63 micro finish. The inspection consisted of micrometer measurement to confirm dimensional accuracy.
The customer appreciated our job well done, and we continue to do business together regularly. With our well-established expertise, they know they can rely on us to maintain high standards of quality. For more detailed information about this small Blanchard grinding project or any of our comprehensive manufacturing capabilities, contact us directly.
At American Grinding & Machine, we manufacture a product line of BRUTE machine bases in various standard models. We also make modifications to our traditional designs to accommodate application-specific requirements. The machine base highlighted here is a one-off of our M100 heavy-duty model designed and built for a material pallet handling application in the steel industry.
This custom machine base features overall dimensions of 27" wide x 144" long x 25-3/4" high. Constructed from hot-rolled steel that we keep an ample inventory of in our warehouse, we cut the top from a one-inch thick steel plate. The custom top was Blanchard ground to our standard flatness tolerances of ±0.002" per foot and a 63 micro finish. We also cut and welded the supporting framework using our standard M100 machine base design and painted it a bright color for safety code compliance. This base has the rigidity and stability to fulfill the customer's end-use needs. Manufacturing it as a custom top with a standard base proved faster and far more cost-effective than a full custom solution.
With our integrated production capabilities, we manufactured, inspected, and delivered a total of four units within a four to five-week timeframe. The customer was impressed with both the quality of the machine bases and our quick delivery. To learn more about our standard model machine bases and the available customization options, contact us directly. We welcome the opportunity to provide a quote.
